How to check warranty by serial number
Updated 2026-10-09
Short answer: Find the serial number (on the product label, in Settings or "About", or on the box), then enter it on the brand's official warranty or support page. Online lookups show the brand's records, which may start from the manufacturing or shipping date, so keep your bill in case the date needs correcting.
Where to find the serial number
- Phones and tablets: Settings → About (Android: About phone; iPhone: General → About)
- Laptops: a label on the underside, the BIOS screen, or the brand's support app
- TVs, ACs, fridges, washing machines: a sticker on the back or side panel, and on the box
- Headphones and small electronics: inside the case lid, on the band, or on the box
Official warranty lookup pages
- Apple: checkcoverage.apple.com
- Dell: dell.com/support → enter the Service Tag
- HP: support.hp.com/checkwarranty
- Lenovo, Samsung, LG, Sony, Xiaomi and others: go to the brand's support site for your country and look for "warranty check" or "warranty status". Many also offer it in their support app.
Only enter serial numbers on official brand websites.
If the online date looks wrong
Lookups often start the warranty from when the product was made or shipped, not when you bought it. If the result shows less cover than you expect, contact the brand with your bill; most will update the start date to your purchase date.
Quick answers
Can I check warranty without the bill?
Yes, many brands show warranty status from the serial number alone. But to claim, or to correct the start date, you will usually need proof of purchase.
Why does the warranty checker show an earlier date than my purchase?
Brand records often use the manufacturing or shipping date. Share your invoice with the brand to update it to the purchase date.
